APC's Ultimatum: Wike Must Resign Over Party Meddling Allegations

                            Nyesom Wike

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to resign from his position and focus on Rivers State politics. Basiru accused Wike of meddling in party affairs and attempting to destabilize the APC in Rivers State.

According to Basiru, Wike's actions are unacceptable, as he is not a member of the APC and therefore lacks the standing to interfere in the party's internal affairs. Basiru emphasized that as National Secretary, he is constitutionally empowered to protect the interests of the APC and its structures nationwide, including in Rivers State.

The controversy began when Basiru stated that all members of the National Working Committee must accord sitting governors due respect, as governors remain the leaders of the party in their respective states. Wike responded with "uncouth responses," prompting Basiru to accuse him of overplaying his political influence.

Basiru also rejected allegations that he and other APC leaders were scrambling for a N600 billion fund in Rivers State, describing the claim as "cheap blackmail" and challenging Wike to substantiate the allegation or face legal action.

In response, Wike warned Basiru to stay away from Rivers State politics, accusing him of being interested in the state's resources. Wike also boasted that he is the only politician in Nigeria who can control two political parties.

The APC scribe further stated that Wike's support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not confer APC membership on him, noting that millions of Nigerians who are not party members also support the president.
